Me and my youngest, April 2014

My name is Laura and I’m a 30-something Midwest girl. I’m married to a fantastic guy who I had a big crush on in middle school, then found again over 20 years later. We’ve been married since May 2012 and I am so very thankful to be his wife.

The focus of this blog will be on what matters most to me – Faith, my family, and my favorite things. I love photography, making lists, coupon/bargain shopping, scrapbooking and paper crafting, anything purple, organizing, and The Beatles (not necessarily in that order).

I started scrapbooking in 1998 after attending a Creative Memories home party and was hooked-I came home that night with the largest kit they sold and I just knew I wanted to do this. I love both the creative process of making something with my own two hands as well as the satisfaction of knowing that I’m preserving my family’s memories for my children and future generations.  My family’s photos, our stories, our memories are important and they deserve to be recorded, and your family deserves the same.

I scrapbooked faithfully until 2008 when my life turned upside down and I went through a divorce, a big move, and a bunch of other life changes. After I married my husband in spring 2012, I started longing to scrapbook again to record our wedding. But discovering I was pregnant with our first baby in fall 2012 together, I knew I had to commit to scrapbooking again. I was so overwhelmed. It had been a long time, and the scrapbook “industry” had gone through many changes.  I still had a bunch of supplies but wasn’t sure where to start.

I spent a lot of time looking online at different scrapbook websites, when somehow I stumbled across Project Life. I knew right away I wanted to try it. I was used to elaborate 12×12 scrapbook pages that took 2-3 hours each to create. I was so excited about the idea of just slipping my photos into pockets, adding some filler and journaling cards and completing a page in a matter of minutes instead of hours.  I ordered an album, pocket pages, and the Baby for Him core kit, and I was hooked. I also started a weekly family Project Life album on New Year’s Day in 2014 and have been enjoying it so very much. In April 2014, I heard that Stampin’ Up! was going to partner with Becky Higgins to become her exclusive direct sales partner and produce exclusive Project Life editions.  I signed up to be a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, having never seen any of their products in person. I love Project Life so much I knew I’d want the discount that being a Demonstrator offers, and the thought of being able to share Project Life with others in this new way was super exciting to me. If you would like to get started with Project Life I would LOVE to help you. I offer one on one consultations, group classes, home parties, and more both in person and virtually (through Skype, telephone, etc) so please let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Why Blackbird? I’ve been through some really tough things in my life (which I may or may not get into on the blog someday) and the song ‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles has sort of been my mantra to deal with difficult times. I also just think the birds are cool looking, plus my husband and I love the Baltimore Ravens football team, so it all kinda goes together.

I’d love to help you get your photos off your phones and computers and into meaningful albums and projects to allow the memories to live on for generations to come.

Thanks for visiting, and happy scrappin’ and stampin’!

I have at least a dozen photo boxes filled with pictures and a computer filled with pictures that need to be put into albums…. I actually used to be a creative memories consultant….short lived but did start some albums that, unfortunately, haven’t been touched in years 😦 Oh well…. gotta declutter and get some writing time in first. 🙂

I used to be a CM consultant too! LOL we really do have a lot in common. I stopped scrapbooking for about a 5 year stretch until I discovered Project Life. Have you heard of it? It’s as simple as sliding photos into pockets. No cutting, adhesive, nothing (unless you want to decorate more, of course). It’s the reason I signed up to be a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – we carry an exclusive Project Life product line. It feels SO good to be getting pictures back into albums again. When I watch my kids look through the family albums I remember why it’s so very important to preserve these memories with stories.
      Thanks for stopping by!
